Lindsay Marks, Ph.D.

2018/19 California Sea Grant Fellow, CINMS Resource Protection Department

Lindsay Marks recently earned a Ph.D. in Marine Ecology from University of California, Santa Barbara, and joined the Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary (CINMS) as a 2018 Sea Grant Fellow with the Resources Protection Department. Lindsay has already enjoyed working with the National Marine Sanctuaries as a Dr. Nancy Foster Scholar; her dissertation research focused on the ecological causes and consequences of an invasive seaweed, Sargassum horneri, which is spreading throughout CINMS. Prior to graduate school, Lindsay earned a B.S. in Marine Biology from the University of California, Santa Cruz. She has gained extensive experience in kelp forest ecology along the California coast through her own research and as a diving technician for the Partnership for Interdisciplinary Studies of Coastal Oceans (PISCO) and the Santa Barbara Coastal Long Term Ecological Research (SBC LTER) groups. Lindsay wants to build a career in marine research and onservation, and during her fellowship she hopes to experience diverse approaches to developing and implementing resource management strategies within the Sanctuary.
