2017 California Sea Grant Fellow, Resource Protection

In January of 2017, Aubrie Fowler; began a one-year full time appointment at the sanctuary as a 2017 California Sea Grant Fellow. Aubrie helps in the resource protection department and with the sanctuary advisory council. Aubrie recently earned a master's degree from California Polytechnic State University San Luis Obispo, majoring in biological sciences with an emphasis in marine biology and fisheries. She studied in the Environmental Proteomics Lab under Lars Tomanek, investigating how marine organisms cope with environmental stress from natural and anthropogenic sources, and researching the ability of intertidal California mussels, (Mytilus californianus) to alter their global protein expression (proteome) to deal with anoxia during aerial emersion, especially after tidal or subtidal acclimation.
