Directed research
projects, one of three identified by the NMS Program, are those
initiatives that are conducted cooperatively by outside agencies
or institutions and the Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary.
As part of our mandate, we are to promote, coordinate, and support
the efforts of outside research groups whose work increases our
understanding of the Channel Islands biological and cultural resources.
Last year our research vessels were at sea for more than 200 days
conducting projects on seabirds, marine mammals, kelp forests,
oceanography, intertidal and geology in and around the Sanctuary.
These collaborative efforts have been with the Marine Science
Insitute of UCSB, the Navy, Scripps Institute of Oceanography,
National Geographic Society, USGS, Humboldt State University and
many others. We hope that you inquire about how we can work together
to identify and fill the gaps' of knowledge that exist about the
resources in the Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary. The
following forms are intended to assist CINMS in maintaining consistency
and achieving the best possible results for your work.
