The smallest of the Channel Islands is famous for the large sea lion rookery. Diving at Santa Barbara Island can provide a wealth of underwater adventure. Don't be surprised if a curious sea lion swoops down on a collision course straight toward you and then veers off at the last minute, appearing to smile at the startled look on your face. These frisky creatures have been known to tug on fins, blow bubbles at divers and position themselves directly in front of video cameras. Enjoy these playful rascals, but please keep in mind that these marine resources are protected by law and may not be disturbed, harassed, touched or picked up. Explore the extensive kelp forest, underwater archways, caves, pinnacles and rocky reefs that this tiny island has to offer. Click here for a printable version of map above |
