San Miguel is the westermost island and is located closest to Point Conception. This weather-beaten island supports an underwater treasure chest of pinnacles covered with multicolored invertebrates. Large schools of rockfish are commonly seen here. This island is also home for elephant seals, pelicans and cormorants. The colder waters support a distinct group of fish and invertebrates that are not found on the southern islands, but are found more commonly north of Point Conception. Sea stars, nudibranchs, anemones and cup corals are abundant. Click here for a printable version of map above |
