Management Plan Review

Future Steps in the Management Plan Revision Process

The future steps to complete the management plan revision process listed in the table below are designed primarily to meet the legal requirements of the National Environmental Policy Act and the National Marine Sanctuaries Act. The process has been and will continue to be kept open to public input with added community consultation and participation through the close involvement of the Sanctuary Advisory Council.

Stage 1 – Management Plan and Environmental Impact Statement with updates to programs and regulations (FUTURE STEPS):

Regulations become effective after 45 days of continuous Congressional session.
Regulations effective; implementation of final management plan.

Stage 2 - Continue process for addressing whether or not to change Sanctuary boundary (FUTURE STEPS):

Following completion of Stage 1 (above), at a future date the sanctuary will begin a public process to revisit the issue of a possible Sanctuary boundary change. Stage 2 will consist of a series of steps similar to those taken for Stage 1, and similarly will be based primarily on legal requirements of the National Environmental Policy Act and the National Marine Sanctuaries Act.
