Public Participation
Public involvement, through Sanctuary Advisory Councils, workshops,
public hearings, submission of written comments, and other means,
is vital to the management plan review process and helps sanctuaries
to identify resource management issues and possible solutions.
Since CINMS initiated its management plan revision the Sanctuary
has received comments from thousands of individuals during scoping
(see comments at left), and during the 2006 public comment period
on the Draft Management Plan / Draft Environmental Impact Statement
(DEIS) / Proposed Rule, and 2008 public comment period on the
Supplemental DEIS / Proposed Rule. Based on comments received
during the public comment periods, the Sanctuary prepared a Final
Management Plan, Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS; released
November 25, 2008), and Final Rule. The FEIS and Final Rule include
responses to all substantive comments received during the public
comment periods. To get a copy of the documents please visit
the Reports and Documents page.
The Sanctuary Advisory Council (Advisory Council)
The Advisory Council is composed of forty-six individuals representing
