Whale Watching:
Join Channel Islands Naturalist Corps volunteers on board participating vessels and discover over 28 species of whales and dolphins documented in the Sanctuary. See gray whales during their migration between Alaska and Baja January - April and experience rare and endangered blue whales and humpback whales feeding in the nutrient rich waters of the Sanctuary May - September.
Check out current marine mammal sightings via our online database.

Diving: Dive trips sponsored by the Sanctuary are geared toward non-consumptive use of the resources.

  • Underwater photography workshops with local experts on board to provide hands-on instruction
  • Fish survey trips during the month of July for the Great Annual Fish Count
  • Year round fish surveys are conducted to support data collected by REEF
  • Diver Uplink Cruises: The Sanctuary also provides special cruises for non-divers that offer a diver-conducted video tour of the kelp forests and underwater reefs using state-of-the-art equipment for full two-way interaction between observers and the dive team
