Last sailed
from Seattle, WA on 18 March 1929, bound for deep sea fisheries.
Vessel was anchored at Neah Bay, with a crew of and cargo of ice
and bait (16000 lbs - value $75). Master checked weather at around
midnight and again at 0230. Sea conditions, strong wind, heavy
sea and clear. Vessel broke anchor and drifted, master attempted
to start motor after first striking but too late to avoid stranding.
Location 1 1/2 mile south of Coast Guard Station. No assistance
rendered until wrecked.

Alice
B., halibut schooner, drive ashore at West Bay in March. Newell
At 6:20
[A.M.] the crew of the American Gas s. Alice B. arrived
at the station and stated she had stranded 1 mile west of the
station but could not be floated until the cargo of ice and bait
was removed, then calked [sic]where she had opened. Crew arrived
at the scene at 6:35. She was found to be a large halibut fishing
vessel. Crew stood by with tools to go to work as soon as the
sea left her, but she went to pieces at 7:10. Crew assisted in
recovering equipment washed overboard from time of arrival to
8:00. Assisting with salvaging of equipment from wrecked Alice
B. from 8:00 to 4:00. Assisting with salvage from 4:00 to
6:00. Furnished fifteen meals to shipwrecked crew. National Archives,
