NATURE OF CASUALTY

High seas, ran out kedge anchor to kedge schooner ahead but sea broke to near to give chain, let go bow anchor, but would not hold

. Wreck Report

The schooner Santa Rosa stranded in Cuyler Harbor, San Miguel Island, at 4 AM on November 24, 1899, pushed onto the beach by high seas. The wreck report specifically stated that winds were light. The crew had run out the kedge anchor to move the vessel ahead when breaking seas interfered. Dropping the bow anchor did not prevent the vessel from stranding. The vessel probably came to rest on the south side of the harbor. Morris & Lima
